Alzheimer disease is today growing among the majority of the population of the world at higher rate. This disease damages the brain neurons and diminish the learning abilities. It destroys the brain cells and eventually the brain slows down its various functions. It is irreversible disease and a progressive one. It slowly and gradually destroys the memory and thinking skills. There is no cure for this disease.
Causes
Alzheimer disease is caused by the dying of neurons inside the brain which inturns damages hippocampus of the brain. And the patient become easily pray to anger aggression and memory problems.
Symptoms
There are various kinds of symptoms which an alzheimer patient shows. Some common symptoms of alzheimer are difficulty in learning, as this disease much damages the memory power. The patient feals confusion while performing daily life activities. His mind is always wandering and he is always lost in his thoughts. Alzheimer patients are most of the time lost in thoughts of their past activities, especially when they are old. The patient feals insecurity and needs someones's help all the time. He is mostly absent minded.
Stages
Alzheimer disease progresses slowly in three general steps
- Early
- Middle
- Late
Early stage
In early stage the patient is almost same like normal people. He can participate in normal daily life activities. He is almost fine, as this disease do not show much symptoms in early stage.
Middle stage
It is the longest stage of this disease and can extend upto many years. In this stage the patient feals much confusion in his daily life activities. He get frustrated or angry and sometimes can act in unexpected ways. He become forgetfull of his personel history and is most of the time in a moody state. The patient becomes unable to recall information about themselves like their address etc. However, he can still participate in his daily life activities.
Late stage
It is the last stage of this disease which is incurable. In this stage the patient lose ability to respond to the environment. They require much personal care and they are mostly dependent on others. They are not much aware of their surrounding happenings and they face difficulty in communication.
Cure
There is no proper treatment for this disease. However, Cholinesterase inhibitors can be used for mild to moderate alzheimer disease. Nowadays, Gantenerumab and Solanezumb are currently being tested to be use for alzheimer in future.
